Hyperloop Transportation Technologies announced that it has signed agreements with Oerlikon Leybold Vacuum and engineering firm Aecom to assist with construction in the Hyperloop.<\/p>\n
Ars Technica reported that<\/strong><\/a> Dirk Ahlborn, CEO of Hyperloop Transportation Technologies, said: \u201cIt\u2019s a validation of the fact that our model works. It\u2019s the next step.”<\/p>\n In August 2013, Elon Musk unveiled<\/strong><\/a> plans for the futuristic \u201cHyperloop\u201d transportation system, which can transport passengers between San Francisco and Los Angeles in under half an hour.<\/p>\n The Hyperloop train concept<\/strong><\/a> is based on the idea of a \u201cvactrain\u201d – a high-speed train that runs in a tube\u00a0devoid of air.<\/p>\n Having no air in the tube means almost no drag – so a vactrain could potentially travel much faster than current high-speed trains.<\/p>\n Musk said the Hyperloop would cost less than $6 billion, and could transport 7.4 million people each way each year.
