The HDBaseT Alliance describes itself as a “cross-industry alliance formed to promote and standardize the HDBaseT technology for whole-home distribution of uncompressed high definition (HD) multimedia content.”<\/p>\n
The Alliance was founded by LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Valens Semiconductor, all of which comprise the HDBaseT Alliance’s Board of Directors.<\/p>\n
The cornerstone of HDBaseT technology is 5Play . This is the trademarked name used to describe the five features rolled into a single cable standard: uncompressed HD video, uncompressed HD audio, high power of up to 100W, 100BaseT ethernet networking, and various control signals.<\/p>\n
Part of the benefits of the design, according to the Alliance, is that you can now have various devices such as monitors, digital video recorders (DVRs), game consoles, PCs, as well as Blu Ray, DVD and\/or CD players all interconnected.<\/p>\n
Not only will this mean far less cable clutter, but it also promises far cheaper cables that can stretch much greater distances.<\/p>\n
The Alliance announced the finalisation of the HDBaseT 1.0 base specification on 29 June 2010 and say that the development for an HDBaseT Alliance Compliance Programme is underway.<\/p>\n
Products with embedded HDBaseT technology are set to become available from the second half of 2010, but the Alliance predicts that the majority of adoption will take place in 2011.<\/p>\n
