mobile data centre on wheels"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Vodacom has developed and deployed a mobile recovery solution which will provide greater network resilience, in the case of an &#8220;unforeseen catastrophic incident&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The solution is two mobile data centres on wheels, which gives Vodacom the ability to restore functionality to\u00a0its Mobile Telephone Exchange (MTX) sites within 48 hours.<\/p>\n<p>Vodacom\u2019s country-wide MTX sites are crucial parts of its\u00a0network, and link the radio access network (base stations) to Vodacom\u2019s core network.<\/p>\n<p>Each site is dependent on transmission infrastructure to route voice and data traffic between subscribers, devices, and systems.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_136224\" style=\"width: it\u2019s used in the very unlikely event that our entire facility\u2019s functionality completely disappears,\u201d said Vodacom Network Engineering Officer Beverly Ngwenya.<\/p>\n<p>The testing of class=\"wp-caption-text\">Preparing the fibre<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This site provides connectivity to customers in the southern and central parts of Gauteng.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m extremely pleased that everything ran smoothly and we reported no loss of service,\u201d said Vodacom CTO Andries Delport.<\/p>\n<p>To ensure the company is able to meet its\u00a048-hour turnaround time, two solutions were second is based in Bloemfontein to ensure quick access to the southern parts of South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Each recovery solution consists of complete power backup with on-board generators, fire suppression, air conditioning, building management systems, security systems, and network equipment.<\/p>\n<p>Network resiliency is part of the company\u2019s ongoing network investment programme,
