{"id":137348,"date":"2015-09-03T19:45:20","date_gmt":"2015-09-03T17:45:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=137348"},"modified":"2015-09-04T07:30:19","modified_gmt":"2015-09-04T05:30:19","slug":"samsung-gear-s2-launch-window-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/gadgets\/137348-samsung-gear-s2-launch-window-announced.html","title":{"rendered":"Samsung Gear S2 launch window announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Samsung has announced that its Gear S2 smartwatch will go on sale from October 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u00a0also revealed that the Gear S2 will work with other Android devices, though it recommended its Galaxy smartphones for the best experience.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the launch window and platform support, Samsung said it has partnered with Italian designer Alessandro Mendini to make accessories, such as wrist straps, for the Gear S2.<\/p>\n<p>The release of a software development kit for its new smartwatch was also tabled.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/gadgets\/136944-samsung-gear-s2-specifications-details-images.html\"><strong>Gear S2 was first announced<\/strong><\/a> on 31 August, and boasts a 1.2-inch circular Super AMOLED display with 360&#215;360 resolution, a dual-core 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, and 4GB of internal storage.<\/p>\n<p>It runs Samsung\u2019s Tizen OS, and supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, and NFC connections.<\/p>\n<p>Three versions of the watch will go on sale:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Gear S2<\/strong> \u2013 42 x 49.8 x 11.4 mm and 47g<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gear S2 Classic<\/strong> \u2013 39.9 x 43.6 x 11.4 mm and 42g<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gear S2 3G Version<\/strong> \u2013 44 x 51.8 x 13.4 mm and 51g<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Gear S2 with 3G connectivity incorporates an \u201ce-SIM\u201d and features voice capability, allowing users to \u201cperform quick functions without being closely tethered to their phone\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The S2 and S2 Classic will run off a 250mAh Li-ion battery, while the 3G version packs a 300mAh battery.
