Speaking to editors in Randburg, Multichoice<\/a> CEO Nolo Letele announced that the company is planning to re-launch their DSTV Easy View service in the middle of October. This service is aimed at the lower end of the market and is priced at a mere R 18-00 per month. <\/p>\n

The 'new' DSTV <\/a>Easy View service will carry the standard free-to-air channels from SABC<\/a>, e-TV<\/a> and Soweto TV, but will also include an ‘MNet Lite’ service, news channels from Al Jazeera<\/a>, CNBC<\/a> and Parliament, a religious channel, standard data channels and other value added content like Mindset Learn.<\/p>\n

The MNet Lite channel will consist of general entertainment content, based on re-runs of the standard MNet service, and will have ‘Open Weekends’.<\/p>\n

This service is mainly targeted at the lower end of the market which may not be able to afford – or be interested in – other DStv packages.<\/p>\n

DStv currently has 3 basic packages, namely DStv Premium for R 439-00 per month, DStv compact priced at R199-00 per month and DStv Select from Vodacom costing R 139-00 per month.<\/p>\n

The existing DStv packages suit most LSM 5 – 10 consumers, but with the DStv Easy View package Multichoice is effectively targeting the full economic spectrum in South Africa.<\/p>\n

New pay-TV providers – namely Telkom Media, ODM and e.sat – are partly building their business models on capturing a large chunk of the LSM 3 – 7 market, but Multichoice is clearly making certain that they are not bested in the lower income brackets.<\/p>\n

Through this service Multichoice will make certain that consumers have the DStv equipment and service in their homes, ensuring that when customers are ready to make a change, Multichoice may well be their pay-TV provider of choice. <\/p>\n
