Google and Microsoft have agreed to end their long-running patent dispute over smartphones and video game consoles, dropping around 20 lawsuits in the United States and Germany, Bloomberg reported<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Financial terms of the settlement were not disclosed.<\/p>\n

The companies have been in battle over patents for the past five years.<\/p>\n

Among the disputes were\u00a0Google\u2019s former Motorola Mobility unit which had demanded royalties on the Xbox, while Microsoft had sought to block Motorola mobile phones from using certain features.<\/p>\n

Google and Microsoft promised to work together in some matters related to intellectual property, including the development of a royalty-free video-compression technology. This initiative also involves Amazon.com and Netflix.<\/p>\n

They will also lobby for rules on a unified patent system throughout Europe.<\/p>\n
