WeThinkCode, a new peer-to-peer tech institution which aims to eliminate the IT skills gap in South Africa, has opened\u00a0the first round of applications for its training programme.<\/p>\n

Those interested in applying for the programme can\u00a0do so at the BornToCode website<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The programme is based on the model used by Ecole 42<\/em> in France, which doesn\u2019t rely on tests, marks, teachers, or lecturers.<\/p>\n

It gauges a student’s aptitude for programming and ability to work hard before allowing them into the unsupervised training programme.<\/p>\n

To apply, candidates will have to face two games that test their aptitude for coding without relying on language proficiency or mathematics.<\/p>\n

The first game tests your ability to see and remember patterns, and is played over a period of 10 minutes.<\/p>\n

If you reach level 7 on the game, you qualify to attempt the second, which WeThinkCode said is harder than the first and takes 2 hours to complete.<\/p>\n

Free tuition and internships<\/h3>\n

Those who meet the\u00a0game requirements will be able\u00a0to book their space in WeThinkCode boot camps, which start in January 2016.<\/p>\n

If you make it through boot camp, you can begin your two-year training programme. If you work faster, you can finish sooner.<\/p>\n

There are no tuition fees and students are paid a stipend every month. Part of the training programme are two four-month programming internships.<\/p>\n

What you need to apply<\/h3>\n

Ensure you are on a stable Internet connection before beginning the application games.<\/p>\n

Once you start a game you must finish it. You don\u2019t need to play both games on the same day.<\/p>\n

The organisation has partnered with libraries in Johannesburg to allow candidates to play the games on their computers.<\/p>\n

What the WeThinkCode campus may\u00a0look like<\/h3>\n
