Microsoft has made\u00a0its\u00a0entry into the laptop PC market with the Surface Book, a competitor to Apple\u2019s MacBook range of devices.<\/p>\n

It boasts a 13.5″ optically-bonded 267PPI display (3000\u00d72000 resolution) in a magnesium case, with a screen that can detach from its base.<\/p>\n

The base contains a Nvidia graphics accelerator, a full size backlit keyboard with keys that have 1.6mm of travel, a glass trackpad with 5 points of touch sensitivity, two USB 3.0 ports, an SD card slot, and a Mini Displayport connector.<\/p>\n

Processing is taken care of by Intel’s new Core i5 and Core i7 Skylake CPUs with Intel HD graphics 520, with Microsoft stating that the device is the “fastest 13-inch laptop ever made” – twice as fast as the MacBook Pro.<\/p>\n

It supports\u00a08GB or 16GB of RAM, and 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage.<\/p>\n

A fulcrum hinge connects the base to the screen, and Microsoft uses \u201cmuscle wire\u201d for the mechanism to attach and detach the display.<\/p>\n

The Surface Book\u2019s battery will last 12 hours, added\u00a0Microsoft.<\/p>\n

Pre-orders for the device open on 7 October, and it will launch on 26 October starting at\u00a0$1,499 in the United States.<\/p>\n
