Numerous 4 Mbps ADSL subscribers have reported speed upgrades over the last week.  Users in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth and Bloemfontein have seen sync speeds of between 5 Mbps and 10 Mbps since Friday last week.<\/p>\n

The first 10 Mbps uncapped ADSL services also emerged this week.  Axxess and Openweb announced yesterday<\/a> that their Internet Solutions Uncapped Express+ accounts are now getting full line speeds after hours and weekends.<\/p>\n

10 Mbps ADSL speeds and ISP plans<\/strong><\/p>\n

Other Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are still working on their planned 10 Mbps uncapped solutions, but most of their capped offerings support the new 10 Mbps speeds.<\/p>\n

Web Africa’s head of marketing Cliff Hazell said that all their capped services support the new 10 Mbps speeds.  “Our packages do support up to 10mbit speeds, on exchanges that have it active. All our DSL Complete packages include the ADSL line, and from DSL Complete 4 upwards they include the up to 10mbit lines,” said Hazell.<\/p>\n

Openweb CEO Keoma Wright said that their capped packages will allow for the ‘full speed of the client’s line’ with immediate effect, and that they are hoping to launch 10 Mbps uncapped ADSL accounts in the near future.<\/p>\n

“We are hoping to launch 10 Mbps accounts in the near future, but have had no word yet regarding an exact launch date from our upstream providers.  One of the limiting factors currently is the excessive cost of Telkom IPConnect, which is charged at an unbelievably high rate per MB,” explains Wright.<\/p>\n

Afrihost’s Greg Payne also confirmed that their capped products are 10 Mbps ready, and while they definitely plan to offer 10Mbps uncapped solutions, they do not have any time frames or pricing information yet.<\/p>\n

@lantic Head of Products Jeane van Greunen explains that their standard capped products all support speeds of up to 10 Mbps, but they currently don’t have any plans to offer 10Mbps uncapped services.<\/p>\n

“Currently our Uncapped services do not support anything faster than 4Mbps (except for our Uncapped Express+ service which supports 10 Mbps), but we absolutely will be launching faster line speeds in the coming months. Right now, we are not sure what the cost of these services will be, but in true Axxess fashion, the pricing will be well positioned,” said Axxess Managing Director Andrew Simpson.<\/p>\n

Cybersmart CEO Laurie Fialkov explains that they do not rate limit their capped accounts. “Whatever speed the circuit can support, that will be the speed that you will get,” said Fialkov. <\/p>\n

Cybersmart is however not planning an uncapped 10 Mbps service:  “I don’t believe you can offer any reasonable speed on uncapped, and if we sell a 10 Mbps service we would like to see customers get close to that value,” said Fialkov.<\/p>\n

MWEB also previously indicated that they are working on a 10 Mbps uncapped service, but pricing and launch details have not been communicated yet.<\/p>\n
