Hot on the heels of bringing the cheap VF340, VF543 and VF546 cellphones to market, Vodacom today announced the launch of South Africa’s lowest cost Android smartphone.<\/p>\n
The VF845 is a slimline touchscreen device which Vodacom promises will place the world of Android apps into the hands of tech-savvy consumers. According to Vodacom more than 70 000 applications have been developed for the Android platform so far and more are being added daily.<\/p>\n
The phone’s list of features include a 2.8 inch QVGA (320×240) 262k colour touch display; GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth connectivity and 3G Internet connectivity. It is tailor-made to deal with essentials including The GRID, Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook, according to Vodacom.<\/p>\n
Vodacom says the device runs on the “latest” Android Operating System, Éclair 2.1.<\/p>\n
The VF845 will retail at R1399. Rivalling devices include the HTC Tattoo (around R3500) and HTC Dream (around R4600) but these competing devices haven’t officially received updates to Éclair.<\/p>\n
