Vodacom recently released its financial results for the six months ended September 2015, with revenue for its South African operations increasing 5.1%.<\/p>\n

The big story for Vodacom was data. Vodacom\u2019s data revenue in South Africa now makes up 34.3% of service revenue, up from 26.4% a year ago.<\/p>\n

This data growth is mainly driven by the uptake of smartphones and tablets. Vodacom now has 12.6 million smart devices on its network.<\/p>\n

Smartphones account for 80.4%, data cards and modems account for 8.6%, while tablets account for 11%.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe sold 5.5 million devices in the first half of the year, of which 1.3 million were Vodacom-branded devices,\u201d said Vodacom.<\/p>\n

\u201cTablets on the network increased 126.2% to 1.4 million, following the success of Vodacom’s 3G Smart tab.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mobile OS battle<\/h3>\n

Most of the devices on Vodacom\u2019s network run Android. 57.4% of all smartphones are Android devices, while over 80% of tablets run Android.<\/p>\n
