{"id":14593,"date":"2010-08-20T15:48:00","date_gmt":"2010-08-20T13:48:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2010-08-20T15:48:00","modified_gmt":"2010-08-20T13:48:00","slug":"gmail-voice-and-video-chat-finally-on-linux","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/14593-gmail-voice-and-video-chat-finally-on-linux.html","title":{"rendered":"Gmail Voice and Video chat (finally) on Linux"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After almost two years of waiting, Linux users can finally use Google&#8217;s voice and video chat functionality in Gmail.<br \/>&nbsp;<br \/>Tristan Schmelcher, a software engineer, writes in the <a href=\"http:\/\/gmailblog.blogspot.com\/2010\/08\/use-linux-now-you-can-video-chat-too.html\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Gmail blog\">official Gmail Blog<\/a> that you can visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gmail.com\/videochat\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Gmail Videochat\">gmail.com\/videochat<\/a> to download the plugin needed to implement the functionality.<br \/>&nbsp;<br \/>Currently it&#8217;s only available for Debian-based Linux distributions (such as Ubuntu), but Schmelcher promised that RPM support (presumably for Fedora and Red Hat) is imminent.
