iBurst has secured funding to roll out an LTE Advanced (LTE-A) network, and is finalising contract negotiations with a vendor for the project.<\/p>\n
This is according to Duncan Simpson-Craib<\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong>CEO of the new combined Multisource\/WBS Group.<\/p>\n In November,\u00a0Multisource completed its acquisition of WBS<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0– the parent company of iBurst and Broadlink.<\/p>\n At the time,\u00a0Multisource said it was planning<\/a><\/strong> to \u201cdevelop the existing businesses and network to leverage the valuable spectrum licence that WBS holds\u201d.<\/p>\n Simpson-Craib told MyBroadband they will leverage their existing infrastructure – which means they will, at a minimum, replicate their existing iBurst coverage with the new LTE-A network.<\/p>\n An announcement regarding the vendor for the project is expected in early 2016.<\/p>\n Rolling out a network is capital intensive, and\u00a0Simpson-Craib said initial funding has been secured as part of the acquisition.<\/p>\n \u201cVarious options are being investigated should further funding be necessary,\u201d said Simpson-Craib.<\/p>\n The company will use its LTE-A network to serve its\u00a0existing iBurst Wireless subscribers, and attract new customers to the company.<\/p>\n New iBurst CEO and plans announced<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n South Africa may get a new LTE operator<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\nMore on the Multisource-WBS deal<\/h3>\n
