The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) sent out an invitation to all interested parties to a media briefing for the official announcement on the licensing of Mobile TV spectrum.<\/p>\n
On 16 April 2010, the Authority published the Invitation To Apply (ITA). On 07 May 2010, the Authority received 4 (four) applications from Multichoice, Mobile TV Consortium, Super 5 Media and e.tv. The first 3 (three) applications were disqualified for failing to comply with the preliminary requirements as provided for in the ITA and the Mobile Television Regulations. e.tv was therefore the only applicant to get the initial thumbs up and was further evaluated since the company made it to the next round of the application process.<\/p>\n
On 28 May 2010, the Authority published another ITA in order to fully licence the MDTT1 multiplex. The Authority received 2 (two) applications by the closing date (28 June 2010) from Super 5 Media and MultiChoice in response to the second ITA. The two applicants complied with the preliminary requirements.<\/p>\n
“Council evaluated the applications in accordance with requirements as stipulated in the Mobile Television Regulations and the ITA and we are now ready to make a formal announcement to licence spectrum for the provision of Mobile TV in respect of the first and second ITA”, says ICASA Chairperson, Dr Steven Mncube.<\/p>\n
According to the invitation, the announcement will be made on Friday 10 September, in Sandton.<\/p>\n
