Cell C last week shook up the local broadband market when it launched its first ever broadband service at rates not seen before from any mobile operator.<\/p>\n

Cell C’s 2 GB 7.2 Mbps and 5 GB 21 Mbps HSPA+ offerings – which are priced at R1499 and R2999 all inclusive respectively – undercut their competitors in the South African broadband arena.<\/p>\n

Telkom in turn launched its ‘Telkom Simple’ service, offering subscribers the following for R369 per month:<\/p>\n

  1. DSL384 Internet access<\/li>\n
  2. 1 GB of monthly data<\/li>\n
  3. Analogue line rental<\/li>\n
  4. Free landline calls after hours and on weekends<\/li>\n
  5. Free phone line and ADSL installation <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The new ‘Telkom Simple’ service is therefore not really a new service with monthly discounts, but rather a re-packaging of the company’s Do Broadband Level 1 service and Closer 2 call bundles.  The company did however remove the barrier of entry by making analogue line and ADSL installations free.<\/p>\n

    Vodacom offers ‘100% Free Calls’<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Telkom is however not the only company punting a new service offering.  Vodacom is advertising its Yebo4Less 100% Free Calls promotion.<\/p>\n

    This service is available to Vodacom Prepaid and Top-Up customers, and offers subscribers ‘up to 100%’ discounts on calls made during off-peak times.<\/p>\n

    The Yebo4Less service is similar to MTN Zone – a PayAsYouGo price plan which provides users up to 100% discounts on calls and SMSs to MTN numbers.<\/p>\n
