There is a significant reduction in the subscription on their 500MB and 1GB packages and a reduction in the out of bundle rate per MB on the 200MB, 500MB and 1GB packages.

From this month Cell C subscribers will pay R 185-00 for a 500 MB data bundle and R 285-00 for a 1 GB bundle. They also have a 25 MB bundle for R 39-00, a 100 MB bundle for R 100-00 and a 200 MB bundle for R 175-00.

Cell C has further cut the price of their data contracts which include a free USB modem. The company’s 500 MB contract is priced at R 245-00 while their 1 GB package costs R 345-00. The contract duration is either 12 or 24 months, depending on the customer’s needs.

Matching Vodacom and MTN

While Cell C does not have the higher speeds associated with Vodacom and MTN’s 3G/HSDPA network, all of the company’s base stations are EDGE enabled promising speeds of up to 244 Kbps.

MTN recently dropped their data prices to match Vodacom’s tariffs which made Cell C significantly more expensive than their two larger counterparts.

The latest price reduction brings them in line with their competitors, and while Cell C is slightly cheaper than Vodacom and MTN on their 500 MB and 1 GB offerings, they did not opt for a 2 GB bundle, most likely because they do not offer true broadband speeds.

While the price reduction means that Cell C is slightly cheaper than Vodacom and MTN, it will most likely not be enough to push the two bigger players to retaliate for the bragging rights of having the lowest 500 MB or 1 GB offerings.

Comments

Cell C has drastically reduced its data prices, dipping below both MTN and Vodacom on some packages.

[14

post-1524","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-cellular
