{"id":153299,"date":"2016-01-28T09:09:06","date_gmt":"2016-01-28T07:09:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=153299"},"modified":"2016-01-28T09:12:02","modified_gmt":"2016-01-28T07:12:02","slug":"android-porn-app-ransomware-warning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cellular\/153299-android-porn-app-ransomware-warning.html","title":{"rendered":"Android porn app ransomware warning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.symantec.com\/connect\/blogs\/android-ransomware-variant-uses-clickjacking-become-device-administrator\"><strong>Symantec has found<\/strong><\/a> an Android ransomware variant (Android.Lockdroid.E) that uses a fake package installation to trick users into giving the malware administrator rights.<\/p>\n<p>The malware can encrypt files, lock the device, change the device PIN, and delete all user data through a factory reset.<\/p>\n<p>Android ransomware has a number of means to extort victims.<\/p>\n<p>In the most common case, a victim downloads and installs a Trojanized app. The malware locks the screen and displays a bogus alert claiming the user has accessed forbidden materials.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the malware gathers the victim\u2019s contacts list and encrypts data in the background.<\/p>\n<p>Users will then be prompted to pay a ransom, threatened by the loss of the encrypted data and the submission of the user\u2019s browsing history to all their contacts.<\/p>\n<p>The malware is disguised as a porn app called Porn \u2018O\u2019 Mania.
