cheap USB-C cables can kill your PC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some cheap USB Type-C cables sold on Amazon can cause too much current to be delivered over your PC&#8217;s USB ports and will fry your machine, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2016\/2\/4\/10916264\/usb-c-russian-roulette-power-cords\" target=\"_blank\">The Verge reported<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>USB Type-C is the latest USB standard, which\u00a0features a small profile and reversible plug.<\/p>\n<p>The issue stems from the backwards compatibility built into the standard which lets new devices with USB-C ports connect and charge via older ports on existing PCs.<\/p>\n<p>Google engineer Benson Leung, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/review\/R2XDBFUD9CTN2R\/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm\">in the course of testing various Type-C cables<\/a><\/strong>, plugged one into his Chromebook Pixel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI directly analysed the Surjtech cable using a Type-C breakout board and a multimeter, and it appears that they completely mis-wired the cable,\u201d said Leung.<\/p>\n<p>This resulted in his laptop being destroyed.<\/p>\n<p>The USB-IF said it has checked 61 cables and advised buyers to look out for its
