Some of the smartest people on earth work in the technology field, and\u00a0are known for developing cool technologies like self-driving cars and reusable rockets.<\/p>\n

South African-born Elon Musk is one of the most respected technology CEOs, with prolific companies like Paypal, Tesla, and SpaceX in his stable.<\/p>\n

Other high-profile technology executives like Larry Page, Sergei Brin, Steve Jobs, and Bill Gates are also widely seen as some of the smartest leaders around.<\/p>\n

However, if you really want to find the smartest techies in the world, you have to look past the glitz and glamour.<\/p>\n

Here are some really smart techies who changed the world with their superior intellect and technical knowledge.<\/p>\n

Stephen Wolfram<\/h3>\n

Wrote a dictionary on physics when he was 12, and wrote three books on particle physics when he was 13 and 14.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Stephen Wolfram is known for developing computer algebra system Mathematica, building the answer engine Wolfram Alpha, and for the multi-paradigm programming language Wolfram Language.<\/p>\n

He wrote a physics dictionary when he was 12, and wrote three books on particle physics when he was 13 and 14.<\/p>\n

By age 15, he began research in applied quantum field theory and particle physics.<\/p>\n

Steve Wozniak<\/h3>\n

Built the first Apple computer and was instrumental in making Apple a global computing brand.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Steve Wozniak is known for his ability to create excellent circuit boards, illustrated when he reduced the number of chips of the circuit board for the arcade video game Breakout to 45 by using RAM for the brick representation.\u00a0At the time new Atari games required 150 to 170 chips.<\/p>\n

Wozniak designed the Apple I computer, which he followed up with the Apple II – the first personal computer that had the ability to display colour graphics.<\/p>\n

Apart from starting Microsoft with his friend Bill Gates, he earned a perfect score of 1600 on the SAT.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Paul Allen is known for starting Microsoft with his friend Bill Gates. He also founded many research initiatives, including the Allen Institute for Brain Science, the Allen Institute for AI Science, and the Allen Institute for Cell Science.<\/p>\n

Allen is known for being very smart, illustrated by his perfect score of 1600 on the SAT, and having an estimated IQ of 170.<\/p>\n

Shahriar Afshar<\/h3>\n

CEO of consumer electronics start-up Immerz, and the inventor of the award-winning \u201c4D\u201d Soundkix mini speaker.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Shahriar Afshar is an Iranian-American physicist and entrepreneur, and is the CTO and CEO of consumer electronics start-up Immerz.<\/p>\n

He has won a number of awards for his groundbreaking inventions, including the \u201c4D\u201d Soundkix mini speaker.<\/p>\n

He is also known for his 2004 Afshar experiment which investigates – and, according to Afshar, contradicts – the quantum mechanical principle of complementarity.<\/p>\n

Donald Knuth<\/h3>\n

The father of algorithmic analysis and the author of The Art of Computer Programming.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Donald Knuth is the author of the multi-volume work The Art of Computer Programming, and is widely seen as the father of algorithmic analysis.<\/p>\n

Knuth also contributed to the development of the rigorous analysis of the computational complexity of algorithms and systematized formal mathematical techniques for it.<\/p>\n

Knuth is the creator of the TeX computer typesetting system, the related METAFONT font definition language and rendering system, and the Computer Modern family of typefaces.<\/p>\n
