MultiChoice has announced new prices for its DStv services<\/strong><\/a>, which will result in increases for many subscribers. The new prices will kick in on 1 April 2016.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s price increases are significant, with the subscription fees of DStv Premium, DStv Extra, and DStv Compact increasing by 8% or more.<\/p>\n

This was brought on by the weakness of the rand, which has lost around 30% of its value against the US dollar in the past year.<\/p>\n

While DStv offers a unique value proposition – which includes SuperSport, DStv On Demand, and DStv Catch Up – it is facing competition from online streaming services like Netflix and ShowMax.<\/p>\n

To use a high-quality video streaming service, an uncapped broadband service with a speed of at least 4Mbps is suggested.<\/p>\n

This raises the question: How does the price of DStv\u2019s premium service compare against the price of an uncapped 4Mbps ADSL service combined with a Netflix or ShowMax subscription?<\/p>\n
