Google’s\u00a0\u201cnetwork of networks\u201d mobile service, Project Fi, is no longer invitation-only.<\/p>\n
The company is also\u00a0running a promotion, offering a $150 discount on the Nexus 5X<\/a><\/strong> if you buy and activate it through Project Fi.<\/p>\n Project Fi is a mobile virtual network operator<\/strong><\/a> that Google launched on 22 April 2015.<\/p>\n It runs on T-Mobile and Sprint in the United States, and has roaming agreements in over 120 countries \u2013\u00a0including South Africa.<\/p>\n Google charges a base fee of $20 per month for unlimited US voice calls, international texts, and Wi-Fi tethering, and operates on a month-to-month basis.<\/p>\n International voice calls and some voice calls in the US do attract additional fees.<\/p>\n Mobile data can be bought for $10 per GB.<\/p>\n While roaming internationally, data connectivity will run on 3G networks and be limited to speeds of 256kbps.<\/p>\n Unused data does not expire. Instead, Google refunds you for data you do not use.<\/p>\n Making international voice calls while roaming on cellular networks will cost $0.20 per minute. If you call over Wi-Fi, rates vary depending on the country you\u2019re calling.
