Vice-president of sales for Benelux and Southern Africa at TomTom, Joost Jetten, recently revealed that they are planning on launching the TomTom 1000 Go Live in South Africa at the end of October.<\/p>\n
The device was launched in Berlin early in September and Jetten explained that the major cause of the delay between the European launch and South African launch is due to ICASA<\/a>.<\/p>\n According to Jetten there is no way to get around the “regulation time” and that everyone that sells connected devices is in the same boat.<\/p>\n The TomTom 1000 range of personal\/portable navigation devices (PNDs) is to become the navigation provider’s flagship for their LIVE service.<\/p>\n TomTom LIVE includes live traffic information, the positions of fixed safety cameras, local Google search and weather forecasts.<\/p>\n Currently the only LIVE-capable device listed on TomTom’s South African region site is the 750 Go Live.<\/p>\n Similar to the 750 Go Live, the 1000 Go Live will have an 11cm (or 4.3”) touch screen and include a one year HD Traffic subscription. TomTom has confirmed that a subscription for the second year will cost R499.<\/p>\n Unlike its predecessors, the 1000 Go Live is equipped with a capacitive touch screen, allowing pinch-to-zoom map control. TomTom also says that the screen will respond to a much lighter touch.<\/p>\n The plan is to launch the 1000 Go Live at a retail price of R3000, Jetten said.<\/p>\n Interestingly, this is around the same price point as its predecessor, the 750 Go Live.<\/p>\n
