{"id":159083,"date":"2016-03-24T10:00:26","date_gmt":"2016-03-24T08:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=159083"},"modified":"2016-03-24T10:05:23","modified_gmt":"2016-03-24T08:05:23","slug":"most-popular-operating-systems-among-developers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/159083-most-popular-operating-systems-among-developers.html","title":{"rendered":"Most popular operating systems among developers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Stack Overflow recently published the results of its <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/stackoverflow.com\/research\/developer-survey-2016#technology-desktop-operating-system\" target=\"_blank\">annual survey<\/a><\/strong>, which found that for the first time more developers are using Mac rather than Linux as their primary operating system.<\/p>\n<p>Stack Overflow said its survey sample was\u00a050,000 developers from 173 countries.<\/p>\n<p>It said the survey is the largest and most-comprehensive of\u00a0its kind.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Mac more popular than Linux<\/h3>\n<p>Stack Overflow said that in 2015, Mac edged ahead of the various flavours of Linux as the number 2 operating system among developers.<\/p>\n<p>It went on to predict that if OS adoption rates hold steady, fewer than 50% of developers would use\u00a0Windows.<\/p>\n<p>With regards to Linux, Stack Overflow found that Ubuntu was the favoured distribution, with 12.3% of the OS market for developers.
