{"id":15915,"date":"2010-10-18T17:39:00","date_gmt":"2010-10-18T15:39:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2010-10-18T17:39:00","modified_gmt":"2010-10-18T15:39:00","slug":"new-security-flaw-uncovered","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/technology\/15915-new-security-flaw-uncovered.html","title":{"rendered":"New security flaw uncovered"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"BodyP\">Stonesoft said that as a result of the advanced evasion  techniques (AETs) &#8220;companies may suffer a significant data breach  including the loss of confidential corporate information.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyP\">In addition these AETs &#8220;could be used by organised  crime and cyber-terrorists to conduct illegal and potentially damaging  activities,&#8221; the company said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyP\">These AETs are a sort of &#8220;stealth plane that isn&#8217;t  detectable by radar and which leaves the door open to cyber-criminals  and gives them the time and leisure to test various vulnerabilities&#8221; in  corporate systems, Stonesoft&#8217;s director in France and the Benelux  countries Leonard Dahan told AFP.<\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyP\">By bypassing today&#8217;s network security systems the AET&#8217;s  provide cyber-criminals with a &#8220;master key&#8221; to access vulnerable  systems such as customer relationship management (CRM) and enterprise  resource planning (ERP) applications, said the company.<\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyP\">Stonesoft said it had notified CERT-FI, which is  charged with globally coordinating response to vulnerabilities among  network security vendors and ICSA Labs which offers third-party testing  and certification of security products and network-connected devices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyP\">Dahan said that &#8220;given the enormity of what has been  discovered, it is important for Stonesoft that one can work together  with other R and D teams to move as quickly as possible to develop  solutions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyP\">&#8220;When one looks at the news over the past 10 months,  such as a student who managed to penetrate NASA&#8217;s network or that one  can gain control of Siemens systems in Iran by bypassing all known  security systems, that is because hackers use evasion techniques that  are not detectable today&#8230;&#8221; said Dahan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyP\">A self-replicating piece of malware called Stuxnet was  publicly identified in June lurking on Siemens industrial systems,  particularly in Iran, India, Indonesia and Pakistan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyP\">Analysts say Stuxnet may have been designed to target  Iran&#8217;s nuclear facilities, especially the Russian-built first atomic  power plant in the southern city of Bushehr.<\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyP\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/276893-New-techniques-that-bypass-current-security-systems\"><strong>Security system flaws<\/strong><\/a> &lt;&lt; Comments and views<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Finnish company Stonesoft said Monday it had found new techniques that bypass current security systems which cyber-criminals could use to gain access company productivity applications.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[17],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-15915","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-technology"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/15915"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=15915"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/15915\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=15915"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=15915"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=15915"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
