{"id":161126,"date":"2016-04-09T22:05:09","date_gmt":"2016-04-09T20:05:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=161126"},"modified":"2016-04-10T00:02:43","modified_gmt":"2016-04-09T22:02:43","slug":"anc-twitter-account-hacked","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/security\/161126-anc-twitter-account-hacked.html","title":{"rendered":"Old ANC Twitter handle hijacked"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;Mischievous characters&#8221; have\u00a0taken over the ANC&#8217;s old Twitter handle @MyANC_, after the party changed its account name to @MYANC,\u00a0the ANC has said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.news24.com\/SouthAfrica\/News\/anc-says-twitter-account-hacked-20160409\" target=\"_blank\">News24 reported<\/a> that ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa said that their old account was &#8220;hacked&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Kodwa&#8217;s response came after Twitter subscribers\u00a0noticed a post by @MyANC_ which said: &#8220;If you don&#8217;t support Cde Jacob Zuma, we do not want your votes! #Elections2016&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>She confirmed that the ANC\u00a0changed its handle on Twitter to @MYANC (without underscore) on 8 April 2016.<\/p>\n<p>The new @MyANC_ account appears to have been created at\u00a011:38 on 9 Apr 2016.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We reject, with the contempt they deserve, the disturbing views as posted on the parody account, purporting to be those of the ANC,&#8221; Kodwa said<\/p>\n<p>Kodwa said it had been reported to Twitter, and told News24 that it is not possible an ANC insider was behind the new @MyANC_ account.<\/p>\n<p>She said that the party regarded it as an attempt at deliberately distorting its message and defocusing them on their campaigning.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_161128\" style=\"width: 641px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/ANC-hacked-Twitter-account.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-161128\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-161128\" class=\"size-full wp-image-161128\" src=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/ANC-hacked-Twitter-account.jpg\" alt=\"ANC hacked Twitter account\" width=\"631\" height=\"424\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-161128\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">ANC hacked Twitter account<\/p><\/div>\n<p><em>This article previously contained text republished with permission from News24, which\u00a0stated that\u00a0the ANC created a new Twitter account after its old one was hacked.
