{"id":16131,"date":"2010-10-28T03:40:00","date_gmt":"2010-10-28T01:40:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2010-10-28T03:40:00","modified_gmt":"2010-10-28T01:40:00","slug":"sa-s-top-handsets-according-to-opera","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cellular\/16131-sa-s-top-handsets-according-to-opera.html","title":{"rendered":"SA\u2019s top handsets, according to Opera"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Opera released their latest State of the Mobile Web Report recently, providing information on the top global trends affecting the mobile Web.<\/p>\n<p>The latest report includes profiles on the top 20 countries for Opera Mini usage, a spotlight on mobile browsing trends in the European Union and a look at how much money consumers can save using Opera Mini.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report Opera Mini saves consumers worldwide more than 2.2 billion USD each month on their mobile data bills.&nbsp; South African users save 6 USD per month &ndash; equating to R42.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Since mobile data is compressed by up to 90%, Opera Mini users potentially save a lot of money on pay-as-you-go plans,&rdquo; Opera said in a press statement.<\/p>\n<p>Consumers in the United States and Nigeria benefit the most from Opera Mini&rsquo;s unique compression technology, which reduces the size of web pages up to 90 percent (%).<\/p>\n<p>Using prevailing metered rates, United States consumers could save 141 USD on average each month, while Opera Mini users in Nigeria save 44 USD each month.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Trends in South Africa (ranked sixth worldwide for Opera Mini usage) include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Page-view growth since September 2009: 99.7 %<\/li>\n<li>Unique-user growth since September 2009: 66.8 %<\/li>\n<li>Data transfer growth since September 2009: 71.5 %<\/li>\n<li>Page views per user: 428<\/li>\n<li>Data transferred per user (MB): 4<\/li>\n<li>Data transferred per page view (KB): 11<\/li>\n<li>The mobile social networking site, myGamma, is new to the Top 10 list.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Top 10 sites in South Africa by unique users (change from previous month)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>facebook.com<\/li>\n<li>google.com<\/li>\n<li>mxit.com (up from 5)<\/li>\n<li>wikipedia.org (down from 3)<\/li>\n<li>youtube.com (down from 4)<\/li>\n<li>mygamma.com (new)<\/li>\n<li>getjar.com (down from 6)<\/li>\n<li>thumbtribe.mobi (up from 9)<\/li>\n<li>my.opera.com (down from 7)<\/li>\n<li>yahoo.com (down from 8)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Top handsets for September 2010<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Nokia 5130 XpressMusic<\/li>\n<li>Nokia 2700c<\/li>\n<li>Nokia 2330c<\/li>\n<li>Samsung SGH-E250<\/li>\n<li>Samsung GT-S5233a &ldquo;Star&rdquo;<\/li>\n<li>Nokia 5000d<\/li>\n<li>LG KS360<\/li>\n<li>Sony Ericsson W205<\/li>\n<li>Nokia 7100s<\/li>\n<li>Nokia 2680s<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;&ldquo;Keeping costs low is about more than just saving money; it is about making the Web more accessible to a wider range of people,&rdquo; said Jon von Tetzchner, Co-founder, Opera.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;That is why we focus so heavily on making Opera Mini work on all phones, and, in fact, why we originally founded Opera.
