{"id":162884,"date":"2016-04-30T08:00:09","date_gmt":"2016-04-30T06:00:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=162884"},"modified":"2016-04-30T02:11:39","modified_gmt":"2016-04-30T00:11:39","slug":"free-web-security-certificate-lets-encrypt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/security\/162884-free-web-security-certificate-lets-encrypt.html","title":{"rendered":"Free web security certificate Let&#8217;s Encrypt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/letsencrypt.org\/stats\/\" target=\"_blank\">Let&#8217;s Encrypt certificate authority issued its two millionth certificate<\/a><\/strong>, less than two months after\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eff.org\/deeplinks\/2016\/03\/lets-encrypt-has-issued-million-certificates\" target=\"_blank\">the millionth certificate<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>As we noted when the millionth certificate was issued, each certificate can cover several web sites, so the certificates Let&#8217;s Encrypt has issued are already protecting millions and millions of sites.<\/p>\n<p>This rapid adoption has already made Let&#8217;s Encrypt one of the world&#8217;s largest public certificate authorities by number of certificates issued, and almost all of them are protecting domains\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/tacticalsecret.com\/124-days-of-lets-encrypt\/\" target=\"_blank\">that never supported HTTPS before<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Internet needs to migrate away from the insecure HTTP protocol, and we&#8217;re very pleased to be helping to make that possible.<\/p>\n<p>This milestone has arrived shortly after\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/letsencrypt.org\/2016\/04\/12\/leaving-beta-new-sponsors.html\" target=\"_blank\">the Let&#8217;s Encrypt CA service left beta status<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(we still consider the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eff.org\/deeplinks\/2016\/03\/new-name-and-roadmap-lets-encrypt-client\" target=\"_blank\">Python client<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0to be in beta, and that will probably continue for another few months). Let&#8217;s Encrypt is steadily helping to make HTTPS encryption more and more conveniently available to everyone, across the entire Web.<\/p>\n<p>EFF co-founded the Let&#8217;s Encrypt CA with Mozilla and researchers from the University of Michigan.<\/p>\n<p>Akamai and Cisco joined the project as founding sponsors, and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/letsencrypt.org\/sponsors\/\" target=\"_blank\">many other organizations<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0have stepped up to sponsor the project since launch.
