{"id":164024,"date":"2016-05-05T14:01:54","date_gmt":"2016-05-05T12:01:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=164024"},"modified":"2016-05-05T16:40:59","modified_gmt":"2016-05-05T14:40:59","slug":"mtn-data-downtime","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cellular\/164024-mtn-data-downtime.html","title":{"rendered":"MTN data downtime"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Many MTN subscribers are reporting downtime of data services and problems reaching MTN\u2019s helpdesk.<\/p>\n<p>MyBroadband has received information from users in Samrand, Fourways, Durban, Edenvale, and Woodmead\u00a0about downtime on the MTN data network.<\/p>\n<p>MTN subscribers have also used Twitter to notify the mobile operator of downtime on its network.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/downdetector.co.za\/status\/mtn\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Downdetector<\/strong><\/a> shows a significant increase in the number of reported problems on MTN\u2019s network.<\/p>\n<p>MyBroadband contacted MTN for feedback regarding the network problems, but the company could not immediately provide comment.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/MTN-network-problems.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-164028 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/MTN-network-problems.jpg\" alt=\"MTN network problems\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/MTN-network-problems.jpg 640w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/MTN-network-problems-250x166.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Afihost Mobile affected<\/h3>\n<p>Afrihost stated that its clients were also\u00a0experiencing errors when trying to access Afrihost Mobile Data &#8211; which runs on MTN&#8217;s network.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Affected clients may experience limited or no connectivity, even though their APN may appear to be connected, which may affect a range of online services like web browsing, WhatsApp, etc.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are working with our upstream provider to find the cause of the problem and aim to restore services as quickly as possible.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Update: MTN working on restoring data connectivity<\/h3>\n<p>At 16:30, MTN confirmed it had experienced data connectivity issues which started\u00a0at 14:00.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEngineers are still busy investigating the issue and have established some level of stability, but the investigations are still ongoing,\u201d said MTN.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe network is busy recovering so services will be restored intermittently.
