{"id":166530,"date":"2016-05-27T10:56:43","date_gmt":"2016-05-27T08:56:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=166530"},"modified":"2016-05-27T10:59:17","modified_gmt":"2016-05-27T08:59:17","slug":"watch-out-for-this-new-windows-ransomware","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/166530-watch-out-for-this-new-windows-ransomware.html","title":{"rendered":"Watch out for this new Windows ransomware"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Microsoft has issued a warning to Windows users about a new type of ransomware that spreads through\u00a0removable and network drives.<\/p>\n<p>The ransomware is detected as Ransom:Win32\/ZCryptor.A, said Microsoft.<\/p>\n<p>The ransomware is distributed through spam email, other\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/security\/portal\/enterprise\/threatreports_july_2015.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">macro malware<\/a><\/strong>, or fake installers such as an infected Flash Player setup file.<\/p>\n<p>To recover from and prevent infection, Microsoft offered the following advice:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Keep Windows and anti-virus software up to date.<\/li>\n<li>Regularly make backup files in an external hard drive.<\/li>\n<li>Enable file history or system protection.
