MTN will launch a new cellphone contract system in South Africa which will let customers tailor their own packages, saving them money.<\/p>\n
According to a report in the City Press, MTN said the custom contracts – which will be called MTN Shifta – will give customers the choice of which device they receive, along with voice, SMS, and data values.<\/p>\n
“None of our competitors will be able to match this within one year,” said MTN’s Larry Annetts.<\/p>\n
Shifta also allows customers to change the parameters of their contract after it has been taken out, with the changes taking effect in the next billing month.<\/p>\n
Annetts said unused data and airtime would carry over to the following month on the Shifta contracts, “depending on bearer and bundle type”.<\/p>\n
The Shifta system will be available online, with users able create their contract, order it, and have their phone delivered to them.<\/p>\n
MTN is also reported to be developing customisable prepaid offerings, which will be called It’s On.<\/p>\n
The new prepaid package will require customers to install an app on their phone, stated the report.<\/p>\n
World Wide Worx managing director Arthur Goldstuck said the move by MTN is a first for the local market, and that it was “good to see MTN move to what is best for customers”.<\/p>\n
Shifta is set to launch in June.<\/p>\n
