{"id":166772,"date":"2016-06-02T12:57:42","date_gmt":"2016-06-02T10:57:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=166772"},"modified":"2016-06-02T12:59:14","modified_gmt":"2016-06-02T10:59:14","slug":"hidden-whatsapp-features-only-power-users-know-about","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/166772-hidden-whatsapp-features-only-power-users-know-about.html","title":{"rendered":"Hidden WhatsApp features only power users know about"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WhatsApp recently\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/164576-whatsapp-desktop-app-launched-for-windows-and-mac.html\"><strong>launched its application<\/strong><\/a> for Windows and Mac computers, allowing users to message from their desktop\u00a0on the same account as their smartphone.<\/p>\n<p>WhatsApp&#8217;s continued growth\u00a0comes, in part, from the fact that it is available on multiple platforms, including Apple iPhones, Android devices, Windows Phone, and PC.<\/p>\n<p>The service also allows users to perform a lot more than just send text messages, images, and voice notes, and make calls to other contacts.<\/p>\n<p>The list below details several features which many users do not know about, which can enhance your experience on the platform.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">See what time contacts received and\u00a0read your messages<\/h3>\n<p>You can see when a\u00a0message was delivered and read by a contact in WhatsApp.<\/p>\n<p>In iOS, swipe left on a\u00a0message in a chat to open the Message Info Screen. This will show the time your message was delivered and the time it was read.<\/p>\n<p>In Android, hold down on a message until it is highlighted and select the Options menu on the top right of the screen. Tap Info to\u00a0see the message details.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Check how many messages you have sent a contact, and how much storage space WhatsApp is using<\/h3>\n<p>Users can see how much storage space WhatsApp is taking up on their device and how many messages they\u00a0have sent a specific contact.<\/p>\n<p>In iOS, go to Settings &gt; Account &gt; Storage Usage. At the bottom of the screen there is a Messages\/Size option, which lets you see how many messages you have sent someone and how much space the conversation is taking up.<\/p>\n<p>Selecting a contact provides a detailed breakdown of your interactions with them.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Clear or Delete all Chats<\/h3>\n<p>If you want to start fresh and clear all your Chats, go to Settings &gt; Chats &gt; Clear All Chats, in iOS.<\/p>\n<p>In Android, go to Settings &gt; Chats &gt; Chat History &gt; Clear All Chats.<\/p>\n<p>To delete all Chats in iOS, select the Chats screen, tap Edit on the top left, and select Delete All.<\/p>\n<p>In Android,\u00a0go to Settings &gt; Chats &gt; Chat History &gt; Delete All Chats.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Whatsapp-on-mobile-smartphone.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-153063 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Whatsapp-on-mobile-smartphone.jpg\" alt=\"Whatsapp on mobile smartphone\" width=\"640\" height=\"430\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Mute Group Chats<\/h3>\n<p>To mute Group Chats, open the chat and\u00a0tap on the Group Chat name at the top of the screen. Select the Mute option, which gives you different mute time frames.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Hide when you were last online<\/h3>\n<p>WhatsApp allows you to disable contacts from seeing when you were last online. Disabling this means contacts will not be able to see when you were last online and vice versa.<\/p>\n<p>In iOS, go to Settings &gt; Account &gt; Privacy &gt; Last Seen and select your desired option.<\/p>\n<p>In Android, got to Settings &gt; Account &gt; Privacy &gt; Last Seen.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Stop saving photos from messages<\/h3>\n<p>By default, WhatsApp saves every photo you receive to your device. To disable this in iOS, go to Settings &gt; Chats &gt; and turn off Save Incoming Media.<\/p>\n<p>In Android, go to Settings &gt; Data Usage &gt; Media Auto-Download.
