A\u00a0dispute between\u00a0Kenneth Makate’s lawyers and his\u00a0financial backers may delay negotiations over compensation\u00a0for Makate’s Please Call Me\u00a0idea,\u00a0Vodacom told Bloomberg<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This comes after the\u00a0Mail & Guardian reported<\/a><\/strong> that Sterling\u00a0Rand, the company which\u00a0assisted in financially backing Makate’s eight-year legal battle, asked Vodacom to withhold at least 50% of any settlement due to\u00a0Makate.<\/p>\n

Sterling\u00a0Rand said it was concerned that Makate and his lawyers,\u00a0Stemela & Lubbe, would agree to a deal that excludes it.<\/p>\n

“Our focus is on compliance with the order of the Constitutional Court which requires us to negotiate in good faith with Mr Makate,” said Vodacom.<\/p>\n

Bloomberg reported that Sterling Rand has since brought forward an urgent interdict to delay\u00a0Vodacom from negotiating with Makate and his lawyers.<\/p>\n

The Pretoria\u00a0High Court will hear the interdict on 14\u00a0June 2016.<\/p>\n
