As 2010 draws to a close Juniper Research has drawn up a list of predictions for the coming year, all neatly wrapped up as the top trends for the mobile and wireless industry for 2011.<\/p>\n
Surging Mobile Data Traffic Will Continue to Test 3G Network Capacity<\/strong><\/p>\n Juniper Research had predicted a surge in mobile traffic in 2010, driven by the consumer smartphone boom. This began to place the 3G networks under severe strain, they said.<\/p>\n A number of network operators have responded by introducing tiered data pricing, said Juniper, predicting that the trend would undoubtedly increase.<\/p>\n “Network capacity will be sorely tested in 2011,” Juniper Research said.<\/p>\n Juniper said that tiered pricing and the use of WiFi as capacity relief may serve to alleviate the problem to a certain extent, but until we see mass deployments of LTE networks and devices that are LTE-capable, operators face a nervous period of attempting to manage the transition.<\/p>\n Top 10 predictions for mobile networks for 2011<\/strong><\/p>\n Juniper Research offered the following ten predictions in the mobile space for 2011.<\/p>\n The full report is available on the Juniper Research website<\/a> as a free download.<\/p>\n\n
