You can install a metal anti-lift bracket to ensure it can’t be.

Check if the gate motor is accessible from outside your fence. If so, install anti-theft brackets.

If you have a manual gate, check the locking mechanism. If it’s locked by a chain and padlock, make sure the padlock cannot be easily cut (a discus lock, or a lock with a smaller shackle).

Check areas which make the gate climbable. A palisade gate works well, as there is only one bottom and one top support strut, making it tougher to climb. Ensure that your electric fence covers the full area.

Alarm systems

Ensure your alarm system is always armed if you leave the house.

Arm your exterior beams at night.

Test your alarm system and panic buttons regularly with your security service provider.

Keep a panic button close by and ensure the family knows where it is situated.

Security gates

Make sure you buy a security gate from a reputable dealer, and that it is made from tough materials.

Make sure any welding is done properly, that there are no weak points, and that the frame is solidly attached to the wall. Attaching it to a wooden door frame makes the gate weaker.

Make sure the hinges are strong and are the correct specification. Ensure the hinges cannot be accessed when the gate is closed.

Ask the installer to weld a plate over the length of the gate and over the frame to prevent anyone from inserting a crowbar between the gate and the frame.
