France’s National Data Protection Commission has ordered\u00a0Microsoft to comply with the French Data Protection Act within three months, following\u00a0accusations that Windows 10 collects too much data about users.<\/p>\n
According to a report by BetaNews<\/strong><\/a>, Microsoft has been ordered to “stop collecting excessive data and tracking browsing by users without their consent”.<\/p>\n “The notice comes after numerous complaints about Windows 10, and a series of investigations by French authorities which revealed a number of failings on Microsoft’s part,” stated the report.<\/p>\n The\u00a0Commission said\u00a0Windows 10 was also collecting irrelevant data, such as its telemetry service which measured\u00a0the apps users have installed and how long each is used for.<\/p>\n Microsoft was also\u00a0criticized for its lack of security, including the use of a\u00a0four-digit PIN used to protect payment information which does not have a limit on the number of guesses that can be made.<\/p>\n Plex media streaming app rewritten for Windows 10<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\nMore on Windows 10<\/h3>\n
