Telkom said it is experiencing congestion on some sections of its 2,300MHz LTE network, and is addressing the problem with the help of its partner, Huawei.<\/p>\n
Telkom said it has seen a dramatic increase in the number of customers making use of its mobile data services, specifically data services on LTE.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have seen an 18.4% increase in mobile voice and subscriptions and over 70% increase in mobile data traffic,\u201d said Telkom.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a result of this demand increase seen in recent months, we are currently experiencing congestion on some sections of our LTE network in some of the busier metro areas.\u201d<\/p>\n
Telkom said this is the exception, though, as over 80% of its base stations are delivering LTE speeds of 10Mbps and higher.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile our networks are upgraded and maintained on an ongoing basis, additional infrastructure investment has been made in recent months and is\u00a0currently underway to further accommodate this increase in demand.”<\/p>\n
Telkom said the congested areas have been identified and it is working with Huawei to speed up the implementation of additional core capacity, site backhaul, and radio capacity.<\/p>\n
\u201cImprovements in the most-congested areas will be felt in the next week and will steadily improve across all congested sites within the next three weeks,\u201d said Telkom.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will update customers in the coming weeks, as the additional infrastructure comes online.\u201d<\/p>\n
