{"id":173764,"date":"2016-07-28T08:54:56","date_gmt":"2016-07-28T06:54:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=173764"},"modified":"2016-07-28T08:57:09","modified_gmt":"2016-07-28T06:57:09","slug":"how-to-keep-safe-online-with-lastpass","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/security\/173764-how-to-keep-safe-online-with-lastpass.html","title":{"rendered":"How to keep safe online with LastPass"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/security\/173728-lastpass-accounts-can-be-completely-compromised.html\"><strong>LastPass security concerns<\/strong><\/a> made headlines recently, and the company has now addressed these issues.<\/p>\n<p>LastPass was responding\u00a0to two security reports that were disclosed to its team.<\/p>\n<p>One report was disclosed on 27 July, while the other was reported and fixed over a year ago.<\/p>\n<p>Both reported security exploits required tricking a user via a phishing attack into going to a malicious website.<\/p>\n<p>The first report was disclosed by Mathias Karlsson, who\u00a0recently posted his findings on the URL parsing bug.<\/p>\n<p>All browser clients were updated and Karlsson confirmed the\u00a0fix.<\/p>\n<p>The second report was made by Google Security Team researcher Tavis Ormandy, who revealed\u00a0a message-hijacking bug that affected the LastPass Firefox add-on.<\/p>\n<p>First, an attacker would need to lure a LastPass user to a malicious website.<\/p>\n<p>Once there, the website can execute LastPass actions in the background without the user\u2019s knowledge, such as deleting items.<\/p>\n<p>This issue was\u00a0addressed and a fix was pushed for all Firefox users using LastPass 4.0.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Further recommendations<\/h3>\n<p>LastPass recommended the following safety measures to users:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Beware of phishing attacks.
