The South African Screen Federation and the\u00a0Save our SABC Coalition have “declared war” on the SABC, demanding that COO\u00a0Hlaudi Motsoeneng and\u00a0board chairman Mbulaheni Maguvhe be removed.<\/p>\n
The groups are also calling for\u00a0Communications Minister Faith Muthambi to be axed, according to a report by the Sunday Times.<\/p>\n
The Federation has\u00a0eight member organisations and represents\u00a0South Africa’s independent film and TV industry.<\/p>\n
“We have declared war on the iniquity and abuse of power and public resources by Motsoeneng and his cohorts,” said the\u00a0Coalition’s Sekoetlane Phamodi.<\/p>\n
“He has been found unfit to hold office by the public protector [and] the courts have found him to have acted illegally and unconstitutionally.”<\/p>\n
The groups have promised more demonstrations outside the SABC until their demands are met.<\/p>\n
The Coalition has also called on advertisers to take their business away from the SABC until a “new qualified and transparent management is in place”.<\/p>\n
Right2Know has previously called for companies which do business with the SABC to be publicly shamed.<\/p>\n
The calls come after Motsoeneng was accused of illegally terminating the contracts of long-serving executives “because they stood up to him”.<\/p>\n
“Standardised and tested processes and procedures are being ignored, overturned, changed overnight without any consultation with the independent production sector. Due process and integrity are out of the window. It is chaos,” said the Federation’s\u00a0chairwoman Harriet Meier.<\/p>\n
“They have fired so many good people that the corporation has lost the institutional memory needed to operate proficiently.”<\/p>\n
