{"id":174514,"date":"2016-08-02T15:30:47","date_gmt":"2016-08-02T13:30:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=174514"},"modified":"2016-08-02T15:32:02","modified_gmt":"2016-08-02T13:32:02","slug":"where-the-da-got-your-number","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/telecoms\/174514-where-the-da-got-your-number.html","title":{"rendered":"Where the DA got your number"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The DA has been collecting information about voters and prospective voters for over 15 years.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s according to\u00a0Warwick Chapman, the executive director of information at the DA.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have collected it door to door, we have received data directly from people, and we have sourced data from providers,\u201d said Chapman.<\/p>\n<p>The DA has been calling people recently to encourage them to vote for its\u00a0representatives in the local government elections this week.<\/p>\n<p>A number of\u00a0recipients of these calls have expressed frustration with the DA\u2019s new campaign, especially with its automated or \u201crobocalling\u201d drive.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">How to unsubscribe from DA calls<\/h3>\n<p>A system available <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.da.org.za\/unsubscribe\/\" target=\"_blank\">through the DA\u2019s website<\/a><\/strong> lets you unsubscribe from its\u00a0communications.<\/p>\n<p>You can also\u00a0ask to be removed from its\u00a0lists if you are called by a call centre agent.<\/p>\n<p>However, there have been reports of people who asked agents to unsubscribe them, only to be called again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe take every request we receive seriously, and do everything we can to ensure requests are complied with,&#8221; said the DA.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf anyone made a request and the request was not honoured, we ask them to lodge a complaint at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.da.org.za\/privacy\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>www.da.org.za\/privacy<\/strong><\/a> and we will investigate.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Why the DA robocalls voters<\/h3>\n<p>Considering the backlash the DA received for its SMS campaign, we asked why it\u00a0decided to implement automated calls.<\/p>\n<p>Chapman said it is their job to run a campaign that informs voters about the DA and encourages\u00a0them\u00a0to vote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know that the SMS and robocalling campaign has been effective &#8211;
