unveiled<\/strong><\/a> its new 22,000-square-foot hardware lab, which features state-of-the-art tools and test equipment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can now handle the majority of Facebook\u2019s modeling, prototyping, and failure analysis in-house, decreasing each iteration of the development cycle from weeks to days,\u201d said Facebook.<\/p>\n<p>The space has more than 50 workbenches in the main area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConnectivity Lab, Oculus, Building 8, and Facebook\u2019s Infrastructure teams can now work collaboratively in the same space.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The lab consists of electrical engineering labs and the prototyping workshops.<\/p>\n<p>The engineering labs provide for the various teams to test and debug their designs.<\/p>\n<p>The prototyping workshops are stocked with a variety tools, including multi-axis computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the machines are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>9-axis mill-turn lathe<\/strong>, used for making complex components.<\/li>\n<li><strong>5-axis vertical milling machine<\/strong>, capable of producing extremely large, complex, and accurate prototypes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>5-axis water jet<\/strong>, capable of cutting full 10&#8242; x 5&#8242; sheets of material, including aluminum, steel, granite, and stone.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sheet metal shear and folder<\/strong>, two machines used for sheet metal prototyping.<\/li>\n<li><strong>CNC fabric cutter<\/strong>, used to cut any fabric quickly and accurately.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Coordinate measuring machine (CMM)<\/strong>, used to inspect prototypes and reverse-engineer a part.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Electron microscope and CT scanner<\/strong>, used for examining components for failure analysis and can produce 3D, X-ray images for
