Samsung South Africa wrote on its blog yesterday that Galaxy S users won’t be receiving the update to a newer version of Google’s Android operating system until February 2011.<\/p>\n
Previously Samsung SA had promised an update by the end of 2010. They also said that the update would be delivered via Samsung’s PC suite, \u201cKies.\u201d<\/p>\n
It seems as though the update won’t be downloadable through Kies when it first becomes available any longer.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will confirm dates for Kies installation as soon as this information is available,\u201d Samsung SA wrote.<\/p>\n
Samsung’s current plan is to have users bring their Galaxy S I9000 smartphones to a customer service centre for upgrading.<\/p>\n
South Africans aren’t the only folks in the world chomping at the bit for their Android 2.2 \u201cFroYo\u201d upgrades. Upgrades were released in Canada and then pulled back and those living State-side seem to be waiting for \u201ccomplex testing\u201d to be completed before the upgrades are deployed.<\/p>\n
Users in a number of European countries have already received their updates, however.<\/p>\n
In addition to announcing the delay of the FroYo upgrade, Samsung have also launched a survey<\/a> in which users can tell them what level of service they expect when it comes to Android updates.<\/p>\n
