{"id":17687,"date":"2011-01-13T09:40:00","date_gmt":"2011-01-13T07:40:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2011-01-13T09:40:00","modified_gmt":"2011-01-13T07:40:00","slug":"asus-android-tablets-get-sa-launch-dates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/hardware\/17687-asus-android-tablets-get-sa-launch-dates.html","title":{"rendered":"ASUS Android tablets get SA launch dates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ASUS showcased a slew of Android tablets as well as a Windows-powered &ldquo;slate&rdquo; PC at CES last week.<\/p>\n<p>The ASUS Eee Pad Slider, Transformer, and MEMO are set to run Android 3.0, codenamed &ldquo;Honeycomb.&rdquo; The Eee Slate will be getting Windows 7 Home Premium and a large 12.1&rdquo; display.<\/p>\n<p>Each of these devices sport slightly different features and, it turns out, different worldwide launch estimates.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ASUS Eee Pad Transformer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Expected first, the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer has a 10.1&rdquo; capacitive touch screen and will use the Nvidia Tegra 2 processor.<\/p>\n<p>According to ASUS it will also have an optional docking station which will turn the Transformer into a fully-fledged notebook with a QWERTY keyboard for desktop use, while extending battery life up to 16 hours.<\/p>\n<p>It will have a 1.2 megapixel (MP) forward-facing camera and a 5MP camera on the back, as well as a mini-HDMI port for connection to an external display.<\/p>\n<p>ASUSTek South Africa said that the Eee Pad Transformer is due for an April 2011 worldwide release.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ASUS Eee Pad Slider<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The second Android tablet expected from ASUS this year is the Eee Pad Slider.<\/p>\n<p>Similar to the Transformer, it is powered by the Nvidia Tegra 2 processor and features a 1.2MP front and 5MP rear camera.<\/p>\n<p>It also has a 10.1&rdquo; touch-screen, but its display is set to receive In-plane switching (IPS) technology. The Slider also has optional on-board 3G.<\/p>\n<p>According to ASUSTek South Africa the Eee Pad Slider is due out in May 2011 in South Africa and the rest of the world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ASUS Eee Pad MeMO<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Unlike its two brothers, the ASUS Eee Pad MeMO has a smaller 7.1&rdquo; touch-screen.<\/p>\n<p>In its press release, ASUS indicated that the device is aimed at those who want to slip an electronic note-taking device into their jacket pocket.<\/p>\n<p>The Eee Pad MeMO even hearkens back to the good old days by featuring a stylus for taking handwritten notes.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike the devices of yore, the MeMO features a Micro HDMI port for connection to an external display and, like its bigger brothers, is capable of 1080p HD video playback.<\/p>\n<p>The ASUS Eee Pad MeMO is set for a June 2011 launch worldwide, ASUSTek South Africa said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ASUS Eee Slate EP121<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With three Android tablets set to launch in 2011, ASUS decided to balance it out by annoucning the Windows 7 based ASUS Eee Slate EP121.<\/p>\n<p>It is powered by a Intel Core i5 processor and features a comparatively large 12.1&rdquo; LED-backlit display.<\/p>\n<p>According to ASUS the display is capable of a resolution of 1280&#215;800 and a 178&deg; viewing angle.<\/p>\n<p>An on-screen keyboard is also complimented by support for an external Bluetooth keyboard for traditional desktop use.<\/p>\n<p>The Eee Slate will be available with 32GB or 64GB of SSD storage (expandable via SDXC), and up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM.
