{"id":176975,"date":"2016-08-23T16:28:36","date_gmt":"2016-08-23T14:28:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=176975"},"modified":"2016-08-23T18:47:35","modified_gmt":"2016-08-23T16:47:35","slug":"telkom-strike-negotiations-fail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/business\/176975-telkom-strike-negotiations-fail.html","title":{"rendered":"Telkom strike negotiations fail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Telkom confirmed that talks between the company and the Communications Workers Union (CWU) held on 22 August\u00a0failed to reach a resolution to the strike that has entered its fourth week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTelkom approached these talks with the hope and intention to find a meaningful engagement with the CWU and made several proposals to the union &#8211; however, the parties could not find each other,\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe call upon members of the CWU, should they opt to continue with the strike, to respect the picketing rules as stipulated in the court order and to desist from acts of intimidation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Telkom said it is committed to finding a resolution to the matter, and continues to engage with all affected parties.<\/p>\n<p>In June, SACU and Solidarity signed a Collaborative Partnership Agreement with Telkom following protracted negotiations &#8211; which included substantive wage negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile the CWU at the time indicated their intention to sign, that has unfortunately not yet happened,\u201d said Telkom.<\/p>\n<p>The primary agreements are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>No forced retrenchments for the next two years.<\/li>\n<li>Outsourcing to be limited to less than a 1,000 employees over the next two years.<\/li>\n<li>The introduction of a new variable incentive scheme, known as \u201cPerformance Pays\u201d, which will replace the previous Short Term Incentive scheme.<\/li>\n<li>Performance Pays will focus on customer satisfaction and front-line productivity metrics.<\/li>\n<li>An employee who is achieving their targets could earn up to 12% more, per month, through Performance Pays.<\/li>\n<li>An increase of 6% on basic salary payable from 1 April 2017.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cWe are disappointed that the talks did not yield any positive results.
