Intelsat has announced the successful launch of\u00a0Intelsat 36, a satellite which was launched\u00a0from French Guiana aboard an Ariane 5 launch vehicle.<\/p>\n
It\u00a0is the 58th Intelsat satellite launched by Arianespace.<\/p>\n
Liftoff was\u00a0at 00:16 South African time. The satellite separated from the rocket\u2019s lower stage at 00:57, and the Intelsat launch team has confirmed signal acquisition.<\/p>\n
Built for Intelsat by Space Systems\/Loral (SSL), Intelsat 36 is co-located\u00a0with Intelsat 20\u00a0at 68.5\u00b0 E, providing a backup for\u00a0DStv’s satellite services across Africa.<\/p>\n
The satellite’s\u00a0Ku-band payload was built to support MultiChoice.<\/p>\n
Its C-band payload will provide in-orbit resilience for Intelsat’s\u00a0video content distribution neighbourhood in the 68.5\u00b0 E orbital slot.<\/p>\n
“Intelsat 36 will enable MultiChoice to extend high-definition channels throughout the region via one of Africa’s premier video neighbourhoods,” said Stephen Spengler, CEO\u00a0of Intelsat.<\/p>\n
“We are proud to once again partner with MultiChoice as they continue to deliver high-quality services to their customers throughout sub-Saharan Africa.”<\/p>\n
