Part of BlackBerry’s value proposition is the offer of flat-rated Internet access.<\/p>\n

For around R60 per month users can enjoy unlimited Internet access from their BlackBerry device, so long as it’s not used to connect a PC to the Internet or for streaming media such as YouTube videos.<\/p>\n

Not all of South Africa’s cellular service providers offer BIS, and those that do also don’t charge the same monthly rate for BIS.<\/p>\n

Neither Virgin Mobile nor 8ta currently offer BlackBerry services. 8ta had previously indicated that they aimed to launch BlackBerry<\/a> on their network by the end of 2010.<\/p>\n

Cell C and Vodacom price their prepaid and postpaid BIS “value-added service” at the same rates, but MTN has a different pricing structure for their contract options.<\/p>\n

In the prepaid arena the pricing is fairly close, with Cell C charging R2 less than its competition.<\/p>\n

Contract pricing looks fairly similar, except that MTN has decided to charge some of its postpaid customers more than others.<\/p>\n

For the most part there isn’t much difference in BIS pricing between operators, although MTN’s contract pricing is more expensive.<\/p>\n
