{"id":18079,"date":"2011-01-28T11:27:00","date_gmt":"2011-01-28T09:27:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2011-01-28T11:27:00","modified_gmt":"2011-01-28T09:27:00","slug":"seacom-downtime-next-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/telecoms\/18079-seacom-downtime-next-month.html","title":{"rendered":"SEACOM downtime next month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/227005-SEACOM\" target=\"_self\" title=\"SEACOM\">SEACOM<\/a> downtime frustrated many local broadband users last year and the problems associated with the cable system do not seem to be a thing of the past.<\/p>\n<p>SEACOM recently informed their clients that maintenance on electronic equipment on the <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/306401-SEA-ME-WE-4-(SMW4)\" target=\"_self\" title=\"SEA-ME-WE 4 (SMW4)\">SEA-ME-WE 4 (SMW4)<\/a> cable, which connects SEACOM clients to London and Mumbai, will cause an outage between 6 February and 10 February.<\/p>\n<p>The good news for clients is that SEACOM is organizing backup bandwidth to its clients to London via Mumbai and Singapore, but this bandwidth is coming at an additional cost.<\/p>\n<p>Consumers in South Africa using SEACOM bandwidth may also see a spike in latency during this period because of the longer route via the Far East.<\/p>\n<p>SEACOM&rsquo;s <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/216049-Suveer-Ramdhani\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Suveer Ramdhani profile\">Suveer Ramdhani<\/a> confirmed the planned downtime on the SMW4 cable due to maintenance work, but added that SEACOM is offering all clients optional redundant bandwidth during this period<\/p>\n<p>While some service providers seem to consider the SEACOM options, others indicated that they will use their redundant bandwidth on the <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/306407-SAT-3-WASC\" target=\"_self\" title=\"SAT-3\">SAT-3<\/a>\/<a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/306409-SAFE\" target=\"_self\" title=\"SAFE\">SAFE<\/a> system to provide an uninterrupted service to their clients.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/306399-SEACOM-scheduled-for-downtime-in-February-2011\" target=\"_self\" title=\"SEACOM downtime next month\"><strong>SEACOM downtime next month<\/strong><\/a> &lt;&lt; Comments and views<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Maintenance on the SMW4 cable system is expected to cause a SEACOM outage for four days in February<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_sma_x_autopost_status":"idle","_sma_x_autopost_error":"","_sma_x_post_id":"","_sma_facebook_post_id":"","_sma_instagram_post_id":"","_sma_threads_post_id":"","_sma_x_attempts":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-18079","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-telecoms"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/18079"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=18079"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/18079\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=18079"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=18079"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=18079"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
