{"id":180816,"date":"2016-09-27T09:35:58","date_gmt":"2016-09-27T07:35:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=180816"},"modified":"2016-09-27T09:37:00","modified_gmt":"2016-09-27T07:37:00","slug":"chrome-for-android-gets-new-data-saver-and-offline-viewing-features","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/180816-chrome-for-android-gets-new-data-saver-and-offline-viewing-features.html","title":{"rendered":"Chrome for Android gets new Data Saver and offline viewing features"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Google has announced the addition of new features to Chrome for Android, including video compression in\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/chrome\/answer\/2392284?co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid\" target=\"_blank\">Data Saver mode<\/a><\/strong>, and a new downloading feature that lets you save content for offline viewing.<\/p>\n<p>With Data Saver enabled, Chrome compresses the images and text you load on your phone, which Google said can save you up to 60% of the\u00a0data you use while browsing without\u00a0changing the content.<\/p>\n<p>This feature has now been extended to video, Google said, offering up to a 67% data saving when watching MP4 format videos in Chrome.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In India alone, this new technology is already saving 138 TB of data on video in a single week \u2014 roughly 14 years of HD video!&#8221; Google said.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Data Saver for slow connections<\/h3>\n<p>Data Saver is also becoming smarter, Google said. When you are on a slow connection, Data Saver will automatically strip\u00a0HTTP websites to their essentials.
