{"id":18153,"date":"2011-02-01T08:29:00","date_gmt":"2011-02-01T06:29:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2011-02-01T08:29:00","modified_gmt":"2011-02-01T06:29:00","slug":"cell-c-solves-21-mbps-modem-shortage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cellular\/18153-cell-c-solves-21-mbps-modem-shortage.html","title":{"rendered":"Cell C solves 21 Mbps modem shortage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MyBroadband caught wind of complaints that the <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/213919-Cell-C\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Cell C\">Cell C<\/a> stores in Northern Johannesburg had all run out of USB modems.<\/p>\n<p>When Cell C first launched its <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/230377-hspa\" target=\"_self\" title=\"HSPA+\">HSPA+<\/a> network in Port Elizabeth last year, the operator unveiled competitively priced broadband packages to go with it.<\/p>\n<p>These include a bundle comprising of a 7.2 Mbps (Megabit per second) <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/226253-HSPA\" target=\"_self\" title=\"HSPA\">HSPA<\/a> modem and 2GB (Gigabytes) of data per month for 12 months for R1,499, as well as a 21.1 Mbps HSPA+ modem with 5GB of data per month for 12 months for R2,999.<\/p>\n<p>Similar annual bundles that exclude the modems are also available at R999 for 2GB per month and R1999 for 5GB per month.<\/p>\n<p>The packages came in significantly cheaper than those of every other broadband provider in South Africa when <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/broadband\/14949-The-best-ever-broadband-pricing.html\" target=\"_self\" title=\"compared\">compared<\/a> in terms of total cost over 12 months.<\/p>\n<p>However, Cell C had made it clear that the pricing of their data bundles was a promotional offer to accompany their launch and wouldn&#8217;t necessarily become their permanent pricing model.<\/p>\n<p>In light of this the stock shortage in Northern Johannesburg raised concerns that Cell C&#8217;s data promotions might be coming to an end.<\/p>\n<p>This doesn&#8217;t seem to be the case as Cell C have confirmed that the stock shortage was temporary.
