The company explained that the problem with saying “we want the best” in a job advertisement is that you receive a huge number of CVs of people who think they are the best.<\/p>\n
OneDayOnly solved this problem by creating a \u201cnerd puzzle\u201d, which applicants had to solve before being considered for the developer position.<\/p>\n
\u201cPotential candidates needed to complete the multi-stage puzzle and in doing so, OneDayOnly knew – before even speaking to the candidate – that they’d be qualified for the role.”<\/p>\n
\u201cWith a few cryptic hints, applicants were instructed to download a repo, unzip, do some tasks, and finally submit an almost empty email as evidence of their worthiness.\u201d<\/p>\n
The puzzle worked as hoped, and enabled OneDayOnly to employ a great web developer after a single interview.<\/p>\n
