Telkom recently committed to ICASA that they will be in compliance with respect to the regulation ‘local bandwidth shall not be subject to the cap’ by 1 November 2007.<\/p>\n
The company says that its wholesale arm is indeed ready with a solution, but that it is now up to ISPs, including TelkomInternet, to implement it.<\/p>\n
“SAIX (Telkom Wholesale) has advised Telkom Internet that it has developed a technical solution in an attempt to assist Telkom Internet and all other ISP's which acquire their bandwidth from SAIX to comply with regulation 3.4 of the ADSL regulations,” said Lulu Letlape, Executive for Corporate Communications at Telkom.<\/p>\n
“Telkom Internet however needs time to test possible solutions in the light of the SAIX developments. It can only be assumed that other ISP’s will possibly also require some time to perform any requisite testing.”<\/p>\n
No clear date seems to have been set by TelkomInternet to comply with the ADSL Regulations, but testing is under way.<\/p>\n
“Telkom Internet commenced testing its intended solutions from 1 November 2007 in a live environment to ensure that the solution complies with the regulation concerned. Specific changes to Telkom Internet's subscribers’ contracts, as well as any new packages, will be communicated once testing is successfully completed,” Letlape concluded.<\/p>\n
